Paquete Funchal

O paquete Funchal foi vendido, depois de anos quase sempre ancorado no Cais da Matinha. Já fazia parte da paisagem. Antes que deixe o cais para sempre fui despedir-me com um desenho.

The vessel Funchal was sold, after year of being almost always docked at Matinha pier. It was already part of the landscape. I said goodbye with a drawing before it leaves the shore forever.

Barco

Na doca do Poço do Bispo existe uma espécie de estacionamento de pequenos barcos. Tenho ideia de os ver ali desde sempre, e tenho a certeza que alguns deles não sentem água há muito tempo. Este atraiu-me mais do que os outros pela sua posição e pelas suas cores.
Enquanto desenhava pude assistir à chegada de 2 pescadores num barco de borracha, assim como à operação de colocar o barco num atrelado, que quase se tornou impossível devido ao vazamento da doca por causa da maré baixa. No final os pescadores ainda tiveram que mostrar as licenças à policia que andava por ali a patrulhar.

The Poço do Bispo dock is a kind of parking lot for small boats. I seem to remember seeing them there forever, and I'm sure some of them have not felt any water in a long time. This one attracted me more than the others because of its position and its colors.

While drawing I could watch the arrival of two fishermen in a small rubber boat, as well as the loading of the boat in a trailer, which was almost impossible due the lack of water at the dock because of the low tide. In the end, the fishermen still had to show the licenses to the police who were there patroling the area.

Cerveja Mecânica na Barberhood

Fui ao lançamento de um nova cerveja artesanal, a Mecânica, que teve lugar numa barbearia chamada Barbehood. Achei estranho o lançamento de uma cerveja acontecer numa barbearia, mas pelos vistos não é fora do comum as barbearias terem um espaço de bar associado. Enquanto provava a cerveja fiquei fascinado pelas cadeiras de barbeiro clássicas.

I went to the launch party of a new craft beer, the Mecanica, which took place in a barber shop called Barbehood. I found it strange for the launching of a beer being held in a barber shop, but apparently it is not uncommon for barbershops to have an bar inside. I was fascinated by the classic barber chairs while tasting the beer.

Basílica da Estrela

Recentemente visitei o terraço da Basílica da Estrela. Apesar da vista lá de cima ser fenomenal, preferi focar o desenho na basílica em si. Enquanto lá estive em cima tive direito a ouvir um concerto e ver os sinos a tocar de perto.

Recently I visited Basilica da Estrela's terrace. Although the view of the city from up there is phenomenal, I preferred to focus the skecyhing on the basilica itself. While I was up there I was treated with a concert and saw the bells ringing from up close.

Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga

O jardim do Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga é realmente uma pérola bem escondida. Tantas e tantas vezes passei e olhei tão perto dele sem sequer desconfiar da sua existência. Mas agora que o descobri vale bem uma visita de vez em quando, seja para admirar o jardim em si ou a vista do rio e do porto que ele proporciona.

The National Museum of Ancient Art's garden is really a well-hidden jewel. So many times I passed by it and look at its greenery form afar without even suspectingitss existence. But now that I've discovered it, it's well worth a visit from time to time, whether to admire the garden itself or the view of the river and harbor it provides.
